social media drives one insane. i looked on FB today to find a person, someone on the comedy scene who came to mind. you think that comedian is ok, but not great, then you find they’ve been supporting some big star. the trouble is people work so hard. it doesn’t matter then if they;re shit. opportunities are given just for effort.
my opportunities are dwindling it seems.
i took a nice break in suffolk last week, staying with Lyndon Grady. what an idyllic village Polstead is. thatched cottages, country lanes, a pond. and the view from my bedroom window. it was great to get away from the madness, except of course the madness is in your head. also got a chance to observe lyndon’s book selling business. she drove out to see a book binder. we went for a thai meal in the night. gigged with bob mills in chelmsford (difficult name to spell), it was wonderful to see the big man again. he loves films, it transpires, and he revealed that he wrote the script to the film Pierpoint. i was impressed, as i am a big fan of piers, and felt the pier pressure. He named two old british films as worth seeing : So Long to the Fair, – is that the one with Dirk Bogarde ? i correctly asked, – and Random Harvest.
drove up to Jongleurs in Hertford. relatively easy gig, not like the Jongleurs of old but a quaint pub by a river. then stayed with matt in Blaby. good to see him again, except we had a bit of a misunderstanding, over the toilet breaking down.
Then did 3 nights in newcastle under lyme. Thanks to lee jones jr i now have a few more boards for my Beatles show, which i did on the sunday. the friday and saturday were club nights there. packed room on saturday, but went well. saw a new act called Lawrence something…he was clever as hell.
Did i tell you that the week before i went to Scandinavia, and stockholm for a few days ? i really am making an effort to escape. but i’ll never truly escape until i can somehow get enough money to leave this comedy lark behind. Saw my friend Kajsa – pronounced Kaiser – and her two shitsu dogs…. lovely wetaher the last few weeks, the last days of august. but september is in the air.
saw a horror film called Talk To Me….first half was excellent. ‘the best horror film this summer’ said the hype. no way – that honour goes easily to Evil Dead Rise
