when i was a kid i loved reading about strange phenomena, coincidences, conspiracies etc.. similar to that curse on amercian presidents who get killed every 20 years , or die in office. Now i’ve managed to create one, or spot one rather. A strange 20 year curse…

every twenty years (approximately) a famous welsh person – usually a performing artist of some kind – dies, or has died, prematurely i.e. at a young age, in the USA.

1932- Peg Entwhistle, actress, born in Port Talbot, chucks herself off the Hollywood sign in California, falls to her death.

1953- Dylan Thomas, poet, dies of complications to bronchitis – or drinks himself to death, depending on your POV – in the chelsea hotel, New York.

1977 – Ryan Davies, entertainer and comic, dies tragically in New York state (asthma related)

1995 – Richey Edwards – former member of the Manics – disappears in the UK – what ? where’s the american connection? i hear you ask….well,- he disappears the day before the band were due to fly to america to start a tour of the states. (admittedly his car was found near the Severn Bridge) he’s never shown up since.

I guess this comes across as morbid, I probably been listening too much to Beti a’i Phobl on Radio Cymru. Beti George loves to steer her guests onto the darker aspects of their lives..Oh and you had cancer didn’t you, Oh and your mother’s death surely brought you down, Oh and i suppose your husband drank a lot. Oh Please Beti, talk about something upbeat FFS. there must be something interesting in your guests’ lives besides loss, illness and tragedy.
